Difference between nintendo ds lite white and crystal white?

I'd like to know if the two colors are different and i have read on the web that the crystal white color is new. I am just wondering if these two are different colors then is the crystal white color in the U.S yet or only in japan. Also, i am having second thoughts about buying a DS Lite because i dont want to buy it and then find out there is another new system or program for the ds or sumthing like that. PLEASE HELP ME!
